“Why Kamala Harris is choice for 2024″

Since my initial enthusiasm for Barack Obama in 2008, my enthusiasm for the Democratic presidential candidates has waned. Over time, I have shifted to the left, viewing voting as more of an obligation than a source of excitement. After Bernie Sanders’ defeat in 2016, I reluctantly cast my vote for Hillary Clinton and repeated the process four years later for Joe Biden. Now, facing another election cycle, I implore the Democratic Party: Save me from endorsing an 81-year-old man who stumbled last week over a basic abortion question. Instead, give me Kamala Harris.

If Sanders were younger, my perspective might be different, but his current age and important role in the Senate limit our choices. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has shown promise, although she lacks national recognition and has not been able to win on a broader stage. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker faces similar challenges.

Harris’s argument is practical. She is a familiar figure with Democratic legitimacy, having been part of the ticket that defeated Donald Trump. Recent CNN polling has put her very close to the former President, suggesting she could effectively maintain Democratic prospects.

“Harris: An essential choice for America’s future”

As Biden’s term nears its end, regardless of the feelings of family or inner circle, Thursday’s debate underlined the urgent need for a credible alternative to Trump and his divisive agenda. Kamala Harris’s case goes beyond mere practicality; It is rooted in both moral imperatives and practical considerations. Another term under Trump could increase national instability, increase working-class impoverishment, and erode the rights of women and LGBTQ+ individuals. For Democrats serious about protecting marginalized communities and advancing economic progress, it is time to face reality: Biden’s chances are slim. Harris represents the way forward.

Four years ago, Harris’s advocacy would have been unthinkable. She wasn’t my top pick in 2020, known for her prosecutorial background, occasional mistakes, and sometimes tricky technical policies (like forgiving student loans for Pell Grant recipients who start businesses in disadvantaged communities. their proposal).

His shift from support for Sanders’ Medicare for All to a more centrist stance blurred his message and diminished his appeal compared to Sanders’ principled stances or the quirky depth of Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Online, her supporters aggressively defended her in “Khiva”, but offline, donations declined, and she quickly withdrew from the primary. The presidency seemed out of reach until Biden chose him as his running mate.

“Why Kamala Harris is the progressive choice”

For many on the left, voting often feels like a compromise. Our elected officials rarely live up to our ideals, even those who declare themselves socialists. Once they assume office, the established political system absorbs them. Although Biden was not my first choice, like Sanders, I never expected him to challenge the establishment he had served for so long. Still, the Biden-Harris administration has exceeded some of my expectations. Biden has largely kept his promises to support labor, and the idea of a GOP-controlled National Labor Relations Board is troubling to union members. Strengthening the labor movement is important for organizing more Americans, and while it is not solely the responsibility of the Democratic Party, I still prefer Biden’s vice presidency to Trump’s. I am confident that she will not back down on labor issues.

I also believe Harris will continue Biden’s broadly progressive economic policies, even if they are flawed, they are still better than what Trump has offered. Although the administration has not fully addressed student loan forgiveness, Harris’ previous Pell Grant proposal now seems plausible in our current discourse. Voting for them supports an administrative state that prioritizes economic progress over tax breaks for the rich.

My motivation is partly driven by deep frustration: toward Biden, his advisers, and even his family, who are reportedly urging him to stay in the race. Although I sympathize with his insults in the debate, he is not my relative or friend; He is the President. It is not my duty as a voter or journalist to coddle them. If he struggles against Trump in the debate, it would raise concerns about the demands of his presidency. Biden’s team shields him from the press and public speaking, making it hard to trust their insistence on his fitness. The DNC’s dismissive response to concerns is not reassuring; This insults Harris and the intelligence of the voters.

Ultimately, Kamala Harris represents a progressive alternative, addressing labor issues and advocating economic policies consistent with broader societal needs, which differentiates her from the alternatives and makes her a suitable successor to Biden. .

“If this election demands urgency, Kamala Harris is the answer.”

Amid claims of snap elections, the Democratic Party cannot pin its hopes only on Biden. We need a steady hand, and I strongly believe Harris is the best choice. It is regrettable that our first woman president could come to power under these circumstances, as representation has never been my primary political goal. I still advocate Medicare for all, tuition-free public college, and universal student loan forgiveness. I’m looking for a president whose foreign policy won’t be marred by the loss of innocent lives and who understands that merely upholding Roe v. Wade is not enough.

Even if I couldn’t achieve all my aspirations this year, I would still prefer to settle for Harris.
